The Nepal Premier League (NPL) has struck a major deal with the signing of former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan to join Karnali Yaks as the first-ever Indian player in the league. The highly anticipated tournament, which will run from November 30 to December 21, will also feature international stars like James Neesham, Martin Guptill, Unmukt Chand, and Ben Cutting.
Dhawan, who announced his retirement from Indian cricket in August 2024, has since been active in other cricket leagues, including the Legends League Cricket (LLC), and is set to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) in December.
“We’re excited to welcome Shikhar Dhawan and the Karnali Yaks to the NPL family,” the team said in a statement. “Get ready for some electrifying cricket as they bring their unique energy and spirit from the land of Karnali.”
Dhawan, one of India’s most celebrated cricketing figures, has a remarkable career record, with 24 centuries across 269 international appearances. His success in ICC events has earned him an iconic status in Indian cricket, and he bid farewell to international cricket during the IPL 2024, where he captained Punjab Kings.
