Victory in Saturday’s Match
In a dominating performance, the Kathmandu Gurkhas defeated the Pokhara Avengers by six wickets in Saturday’s Nepal Premier League (NPL) match. Held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, the Gurkhas reached the target of 139 runs in just 14.1 overs, losing four wickets in the process.
Avengers’ Batting Struggles
After losing the toss and being invited to bat, the Avengers posted a modest 138/8 in their 20 overs. Raymon Reifer top-scored for the Avengers with 41 runs off 30 balls, including three sixes and a four. Dinesh Kharel added 38 runs, and Dilip Nath contributed 27 runs. The remaining players failed to make significant contributions, leading to a subpar total.
Gurkhas’ Clinical Bowling
The Gurkhas’ bowlers were in fine form, with captain Karan KC and Rashid Khan each claiming three wickets. Gerhard Erasmus and Michael Levitt also took one wicket each, maintaining tight control throughout the Avengers’ innings.
Gurkhas’ Efficient Chase
In response, the Gurkhas chased down the target with ease. Stephen Eskinazi played a match-winning knock, scoring 60 runs off just 34 balls, including 10 boundaries. Michael Levitt (32 runs) and Gerhard Erasmus (25 not out) played valuable supporting roles, while Bhim Sarki chipped in with 22 runs to help complete the chase.
Avengers’ Bowling Efforts
Bipin Khatri was the standout bowler for the Avengers, picking up three wickets, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Gurkhas from securing a six-wicket victory. Michael Leask also took one wicket in the losing effort.
This win boosts the Gurkhas’ campaign in the NPL, while the Pokhara Avengers will need to regroup ahead of their next match.
