Nepal offers a visa on arrival at main entry points, and the process is quick and simple. You can also get a visa from a Nepal embassy before you travel, but in that case you must enter Nepal within six months from the issue date. Another option is to apply online before your trip, which helps you save time at the airport.

To enter Nepal, you need a valid passport with at least six months left before expiry and at least one blank page. You also need one recent passport photo and a completed visa form, which can be filled online or at the airport. Visa fees must be paid in US dollars cash, with options of 15 days for 30 dollars, 30 days for 50 dollars, or 90 days for 125 dollars. You will also need to provide your first hotel address on the form.

Tourist visas are multiple entry, so you can leave Nepal and return without getting a new visa as long as your visa is still valid. If you want to stay longer, you can extend your visa starting from 45 dollars for 15 days, with an extra charge per day after that. Overstaying results in a daily fine. The total stay allowed is up to 150 days in one calendar year.

At land borders, card payment is usually not available, so it is important to carry clean US dollar cash. Volunteering on a tourist visa is not allowed and may lead to fines or deportation. If you plan to go trekking, you will also need extra permits like a TIMS card and national park entry permits along with your visa.
